Her involving first-person narrative reveals insecurities known to many young readers and offers insights into the meaning of family.” ―ALA Booklist

From the critically acclaimed author of Mascot comes this heartfelt novel, perfect for fans of John David Anderson and Cammie McGovern, about a girl searching for the meaning of family.

Lola and Momma have always been a team of two. It hasn’t always been easy for Lola, being one of the only kids she knows with just one parent around. And lately she’s been feeling incomplete, like there’s a part of herself that she can’t know until she knows her dad.

But what will happen—to Lola, to Momma, to their team of two—if she finds him?

WATT O'HUGH AND THE INNOCENT DEAD by Steven S. Drachman Official Blog Tour

Series: Memoirs of Watt O'Hugh the Third (Book 3)
Paperback: 284 pages
Publisher: Chickadee Prince Books LLC (September 1, 2019)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1732913935
ISBN-13: 978-1732913936

Praise for WATT O'HUGH AND THE INNOCENT DEAD

“Touching tragedy, dead-pan comedy and a time-roaming cowboy? Part three of Drachman’s epic fantasy series is indeed fantastic!” ―David David Katzman, award-winning author of A Greater Monster (Bedhead Books)

“[An] engaging tale of Western science fiction and amazing fantasy … Fast-paced, energetic and fun; a dime novel for modern intellectuals.” ―Kirkus Reviews

"The third entry in Drachman'sseries (after Watt O'Hugh Underground) dives right into a complex world of time travel, lost love, faith, war, and the afterlife. The titularRoamer -- a time traveler with cowboy flavor -- is hoodwinked into getting good and dead. He wakes up in the Hell of the Innocent Dead, a place of Chinese myth devoted to those unjustly dead whose murderers still walk free.... VERDICT: Genre mashup devotees should get some good laughs and thrills from this Western/adventure/sf/fantasy blend." ―Nicole Steeves, Library Journal

On the morning of Wednesday, September 24, 1879, I awoke in a prison in Montana.

I did not imagine that evening might find me sprawled beneath a great and ferocious sand crab on a rancid beach, deep in the Hell of the Innocent Dead.

But that is indeed where I wound up.

The moral, if there is one: never plan your day too inflexibly.

THE WAIT IS OVER: THE CLASSIC ADVENTURE CONCLUDES....

In this, the final book of the trilogy, Watt O'Hugh, the dead/not-dead, time Roaming Western gunman, travels the length and breadth of the sixth level of Hell, recruiting a shadowy army that might storm the borders of the Underworld, free humanity and the inscapes from the clutches of the Falsturm and his Sidonian hordes, and stave off the Coming Storm.

He'll need a little luck.

WATT O'HUGH AND THE INNOCENT DEAD BY STEVEN S. DRACHMAN EXCERPT

The bar in Conconully was naught but a desolate store room, abandoned with the change in the economy, and not yet rescued by the tourists who would descend a few years henceforward. A few windows let in the air and the starlight. Someone had lugged a makeshift bar from town, and the music was lo-fi, a couple of acoustic guitars, a sax, a flute. A lot of Roamers cannot tolerate amplification. The party was crowded, but I realized quickly that the number of bodies grew and collapsed, like a human lung. The room, a blur — partyers shifted as I watched; the past and the future metamorphosed, smeared in space. How many Roamers would it take to change a light bulb? An infinite number, because the past and the future is always changing ‘round them.

His first novel, a Western sci-fi historical fantasy entitled The Ghosts of Watt O'Hugh, was named one of the Best of 2011 by Kirkus Reviews, and Winner, Best Fantasy Novel by Indie Excellence Book Awards 2012. Book 2 of the Watt O'Hugh trilogy, Watt O'Hugh Underground, was published by Chickadee Prince Books in 2014, to equivalent acclaim. The final book of the trilogy is Watt O'Hugh and the Innocent Dead.

A Time Travel Novel full of spunk.

I recommend reading the first 2 books of this story before you dive into the third installment. Quirky, interesting time jumps, and out of this time characters. Go on an interesting Journey with Watt, and his fellow comrades as they take on the levels of Hell....and try to keep their humanity.

Helix by Mary Ting Blog Tour and Giveaway

Helix
Mary Ting
(International Sensory Assassin Network #2)
Published by: Vesuvian Books

Genres: Dystopian, Science Fiction, Young Adult
Alliances are forming. The resistance is growing. Everything is about to change.
With her memory still fragmented, Ava returns to the International Sensory Assassin Network (ISAN) to find the twin sister she never knew she had.
But as Ava hunts for information, she finds herself tangled in a web of yet more lies and conspiracy. The Helix serum may not be required to access her superpowers, and the number of male assassins—previously considered too volatile to tolerate Helix—is growing in every territory.
The more Ava uncovers, the more of a threat she becomes to ISAN. Her only salvation may be to join the rebels—if she isn’t killed first.

My Review

Helix is the second installment in the ISAN series...thank god there is going to be five books in this series because I just don't want it to end.

This story heats up with complex conspiracies, tangled twists, and action...action..action...
SO much happens in this story, you have to be alert at all times because you will never guess or expect what will happen. Some secrets will be revealed, while others just get deeper and mysterious.

The characters are amazing....I was content to be back into Ava and Rhett's world....a damaged world that still holds hope. Your favorite resistance characters are still strong, shedding light humor during difficult times. Ava's team, still loyal...ahem...most of them.. and amazing new characters that plays critical rolls.

Be prepared for an emotional roller coaster...your heart will soar, it will ache in pain, it will beat with an adrenaline rush, it will be crushed with agony, like I said, a roller coaster.

This story, book, world has everything, and I mean everything for a fantastic read to escape from everyday life...and that my friends, is what makes reading worthwhile.

EXCERPT

I twisted at the waist to dodge the first pellet. Then I ducked and somersaulted when two more fired my way. I flattened to the ground, rolled to my right, and then jolted up when more whizzed by, one after another in rapid succession. After shifting awkwardly to my left and right, I arched my back, and one missed me by a hair.
Drew stopped firing, his features a mask of confusion. He looked at his Taser, most likely wondering if he should even bother with it, and then watched me walk toward him to close the gap between us.
“How?” His chest heaved and anger seethed in his eyes.
I swaggered the last few steps with a smirk. “I guess Helix likes me better. You’ve got the wrong briefcase, as you know … and this is personal. You messed with the wrong team.”
I slammed the heel of my palm into his chest. The unforgivable blow caused Drew to fly off the roof to likely splat on the ground.
     Oops. My bad.
I placed the right suitcase on the platform of the sub-glider. It whooshed and clanked open.
A welcoming, wonderful sound.

Book Synopsis

An inquisitive polar bear named Duane befriends an array of animals as he discovers where he belongs in this charming classic-in-the making that’s reminiscent of Winnie the Pooh.

Duane is a sweet and curious young bear who makes friends with everyone he meets—whether they’re bossy, like Major Puff the puffin, or a bit vain, like Handsome the musk ox, or very, very shy, like Boo the caribou. For these arctic friends, every day is a new adventure!

My Review

What a wonderful read for the whole family...grab a blanket, because it's cold in the Very, Very Far North...and go on an adventure with Duane!

Duane's innocence shines through with humor as he decides to make a home in the Very, Very far north, making new friends, discoveries, and adventures.  With each new friend he meets, he learns more about himself and his friends wacky personalities.

However, what is TRULY amazing about this story is the subtle lessons you learn while reading....keeping boundaries, listening to your instincts, and so much more....pretty sneaky and brilliant all at the same time!

A beautiful story full of virtue, it's timeless and will be a favorite bedtime read.

WATCH HOLLOW by Gregory Funaro NERD BLAST and Giveaway

SYNOPSIS
Deep within the enchanted woods in the town of Watch Hollow stands the once-grand Blackford House, whose halls hold a magical secret: a giant cuckoo clock that does much more than tell time. But when the clock’s gears cease to turn, an evil presence lurking among the trees begins to come out of the shadows.

When Lucy and Oliver Tinker arrive in Watch Hollow, they have no idea that anything is wrong. A mysterious stranger has made their father an offer that’s too good for him to refuse. All Mr. Tinker needs to do is fix the clock at Blackford House and fistfuls of gold coins are his to keep.

It doesn’t take long, however, for the children to realize that there is more to Blackford House than meets the eye. And before they can entirely understand the strange world they’ve stumbled into, Lucy and Oliver must join forces with a host of magical clock animals to defeat the Garr—a vicious monster that not only wants Blackford House for itself, but also seeks to destroy everything the Tinkers hold dear.

A MURDER ON JANE STREET by Cathy Cash Spellman Blog Tour

SYNOPSIS

A brutal murder.
A heinous secret
A deadly conspiracy.

The brutal murder of the little old lady next door puts FitzHugh Donovan on the case. A retired New York City Police Chief, he knows a cover-up when he sees one and his Irish Cop conscience can’t let that happen.

Now, Fitz, his family and his quirky band of Bleecker Street Irregulars are ensnared in the bizarre secret the woman died to protect.

Is this a 75-year-old cold case turned hot again, or an unspeakable crime-in-progress that could alter the course of the world?

Fitz doesn’t yet know how high the stakes are, that failure isn’t an option, and that the little old lady was so much more than she appeared. But he’s trying to keep everyone alive long enough to find out.

Characters you’ll care about, dark shocking secrets, and disturbing similarities to today’s political scene, will keep you turning pages to an ending you won’t see coming.

Praise for A MURDER ON JANE STREET

"Family ties tighten and bonds of affection grow stronger as a family is trapped between ruthless forces struggling for the highest stakes: control of a world to be subjected to unimaginable evil. As.parents, children and loved ones risk all to protect one another, events accelerate towards a conclusion that is in doubt until the last page is turned. A terrific read!" ―Richard Gid Powers author of The Mystery of the Trinity

Cathy paints a picture with the most radiant phrasing and colorful words! I’m a fan of her books and have read every one of them, always wishing that she’ll write more! That hope was answered with A MURDER ON JANE STREET. This compelling gem of a mystery is also a history, a conspiracy, and a modern-day morality tale rolled into one. Yes there is a murder, deadly secrets and treachery, but at its heart, it’s also about family, friendship and having the courage to do the right thing in the face of nearly insurmountable odds. This brilliant author has created yet another home run! Her narrative, coupled with an edge-of-your-seat contemporary mystery thriller, have characters that warmed my heart and an unexpected ending that I absolutely LOVED! ―Adria de Haume, author of Cross Purpose

"Do NOT read this book unless you are willing to be seduced by a dozen incredibly keen people without whom the world as we know it might cease to exist." ―K.T. Maclay author of Beginners Guide to Death and Dying in Oaxaca

Excerpt #3
A MURDER ON JANE STREET
by Cathy Cash Spellman

Mrs. W’s Journal
My journey was a litany of horrors. The weather was ferocious, my exhausted horse was malnourished within days. Once, I traded an emerald brooch for a loaf of stale bread and a handful of oats for my mount, feeling grateful for the bargain.
“Wolves tracked us by night, howling, hungry. I understood their need for I, too, was starving and weakening because of it. I was struck dumb by the suffering. Everywhere one’s eyes alighted there was anguish and ugliness.
I had learned from bitter experience to stay clear of humans if I could, but finally I knew that soon I would be able to go no farther. I had eaten only scraps of rotting garbage for three days. My horse had been stolen by a man who had begged aid at the roadside, then smashed my head with a rock when I stooped to help him. He’d left me to die in his place, robbing me of what warm clothing I wore, the horse, and all my meager possessions.
I awakened in a fugue state, near dusk. Injured and freezing, I dragged myself upright, uncertain if I could walk at all; my vision was blurred and my last strength had ebbed as I’d lain on the frozen earth. Dazed, depleted, despairing, I trudged for a time on blocks of ice that had once been feet, how long I do not know. Night fell and I knew I would not see morning.
But then, in my semiconscious state, I saw a structure materialize through the falling snow, to the far left of the road. It was not a mirage as I’d feared, but a ramshackle barn with a hand-lettered sign by the door that read “Gerhardt Steiner.” Praise God the door was unlatched, for I hadn’t the strength to force it.
I dragged my frozen body to the farthest interior corner, and burrowing as best I could into a stack of vermin-infested hay for warmth, I lay my throbbing, bloodied head down and consigned my soul to God.
Sometime later I woke from a sleep so deep I had no idea where I was or why, to find a large, shabbily clad man bending over me. His weathered face showed consternation and something more complex—concern, compassion, fear? Perhaps all three. What it did not show was the feral ferocity I had encountered on the road. There was gentleness in his middle-aged countenance and his tired eyes were kind.
“Stay down! You must not yet move, fraulein!” he whispered in an urgent, educated voice. “You are injured, starving. I must fetch you water. And blankets, ya?” he added as an afterthought. “Later, when it is full dark, we must hide you within the house—you will be safer there.”
Fitz laid the book over his knee and took a sip of the strong honey-laced tea that sat on the table beside him. This was a turn in the story he had not been expecting. Could this be a tale of love as well as war, he wondered, heartened by the thought. Now, wouldn’t that be grand, entirely?
He’d call Itzak with one more piece to add to the puzzle.

My Review

THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!!!!

You never know who you might have living next door to you, and the impact they may had in history.

This story is SO brilliantly written...a murder mystery with twists galore... this story comes to life right before your eyes with clues, conspiracy theories, action and suspense.  It keeps you guessing until the very end. New Technology has a huge impact in this story that unravels a secret a woman kept secret for 75 years....how crazy is that?

I loved all the characters in this story...how they all worked together to keep a promise to the little old lady next door.  The story is superb on all levels...I seriously can't rave enough about it..and I don't usually read mysteries...but I sure want to collect everything this author has written because, wow, what an amazing creative imagination!

It was so rewarding to watch this woman's life unfold before your eyes and the total respect Fitz and his own band of soldiers developed. Family, loyalty, and going beyond your limits to do what is right, flourishes throughout.

No spoilers in this review because you really need to experience it first hand!  I have always had a fascination with WW2 because my grandfather was a soldier, and growing up with his stories...and my husband's family is German...I always wondered if their paths crossed.
