Book 1 synopsis:

This routine is killing me.

Day in and day out, it’s; the same thing: go to work, bed a whore, get a criminal off on a technicality— pretty standard for one of Chicago’s most established criminal defense attorneys. Yet I’m almost positive that if I don’t find something to get me out of this rut I’ll go as crazy as the murders I defend.

And when Violet Donovan walks in, the smart-mouthed intern who is anything but routine, I’m sure those pouty lips and fuck-me eyes are just what I need to get my cock and love for the law twitching again.

Too bad she also happens to be the daughter of the man who once tried to mentor me.

Too bad she’s completely off limits.

Charlotte Ferro is about to jump.

Yet nothing ruins a perfectly good suicide attempt worse than a handsome do-gooder. After William O’Reilly convinces her to take one last ride with him, Charlotte finds herself forgetting about her own problems and enjoying a world of which she never dreamed.

Now addicted to the rush of fast cars and cool criminals, Charlotte finds herself leaning less towards the ledge and more toward the arms of her savior. But with reasons of his own for keeping Charlotte safe from herself, William is reluctant to involve her in his criminal undertakings. Will his career choice keep them apart? Will Charlotte’s painful past?

My Review

Charlotte is in deep depression, and being tired of the hurt, she plans to end things so the pain will end. However, in her careful planning, she never anticipated the appearance of a dreamy man saving her from herself, and gradually pulling the demons that harm her away from her soul.

The adrenaline rush that she experienced her first night with William, makes her realize there is much more to life.  Simple daily text messages from William gradually puts life in perspective for Charlotte.

I think more people than we think experience depression in one form or another.  This issue is portrayed beautifully in this story, Breakdown.

Would Charlotte really have jumped if William didn't show up when he did? Only Charlotte knows that true answer.  As bad as Charlotte needed William in that moment, He needed her just as bad. They both helped each other break down the walls and push the demons away.  They saved each other.

I loved the bantering between Charlotte and William. Even through the snarky comments to each other, you can see a bond, an attraction starting to form.

Depression and suicide can be a harsh issue, however this story rocked beautifully.  I was completely drawn into the story, anxious to hear what was going to happen next. It is fast paced just like the car races within.

Give it a try. A beautiful story about hanging in there, and going for your dreams.
