A KILLER'S ALIBI by William L. Myers Jr. Blog Tour

SYNOPSIS

For attorney Mick McFarland, the evidence is damning. And so are the family secrets in this twisty legal thriller from the Amazon Charts bestselling author of A Criminal Defense.

When crime lord Jimmy Nunzio is caught, knife in hand, over the body of his daughter's lover and his own archenemy, he turns to Mick McFarland to take up his defense. Usually the courtroom puppeteer, McFarland quickly finds himself at the end of Nunzio's strings. Struggling to find grounds for a not-guilty verdict on behalf of a well-known killer, Mick is hamstrung by Nunzio's refusal to tell him what really happened.

On the other side of the law, Mick's wife, Piper, is working to free Darlene Dowd, a young woman sentenced to life in prison for her sexually abusive father's violent death. But the jury that convicted Darlene heard only part of the truth, and Piper will do anything to reveal the rest and prove Darlene's innocence.

As Mick finds himself in the middle of a mob war, Piper delves deeper into Darlene's past. Both will discover dark secrets that link these fathers and daughters--some that protect, some that destroy, and some that can't stay hidden forever. No matter the risk.

Praise for A KILLER'S ALIBI

"William Myers' riveting new novel is not just a crackerjack legal thriller, it is also a wrenching portrayal of a whole range of father-daughter relationships, showing how they can damage, how they nourish, how they go dangerously offtrack. A story not to be missed." ―New York Times bestselling author, William Lashner

I was blown away...A Killer's Alibi in three words: Sharp, Shocking and Intricate. ―Novel Gossip Book Review

My Review

A Killer's Alibi is the third installment in the Philadelphia Legal series which can be read as a standalone novel. I have not read the first two installments yet, since I didn't have enough time to but I look forward to diving into those two books as soon as I can.

You have two for one in this thriller...Mick McFarland hired to represent Crime Lord Jimmy Nunzio who is being charged for murder of the son of another crime lord, and Mick's wife Piper, who is trying to free Darlene Dowd who she feels was wrongly convicted of her father's murder...a dynamic dual for sure.

With an eye for detail, this story unfolds with amazing creativity and wit. It was easy to get caught up in the drama with myself wanting to slap Jimmy and yell at him to just talk, to my heart just breaking for Darlene and the horrors she had to endure. This ingenious thriller is fast paced with integrate elements. Twists...and more twists and turns, left the imagination wide open because honestly, I didn't know what to expect.  All the characters in this story felt so real in my soul....all the conversations absolute.

This was my first legal thriller to read and I am hooked.
I watch a lot of crime and law shows, why I have never picked up a legal thriller before, I have no idea.

Thank you William Myers for sharing your imagination, and sending me the books!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

William L. Myers, Jr. is the No. 6 best-selling author for Amazon Kindle in 2017 for his debut novel, A Criminal Defense. That was the first in what has become the Philadelphia Legal Series. The third book in that series, A Killers Alibi debuts February 19, 2019.
A Killer’s Alibi has had rave early reviews including New York Times Bestselling author, Bill Lasher—

“William Myers’ riveting new novel is not just a crackerjack legal thriller, it is a wrenching portrayal of a whole range of farther-daughter relations, showing how they can damage, how they can nourish, how they go dangerously off track. A story not to be missed.”

Born in 1958 into a blue-collar family, Mr. Myers inherited a work-ethic that propelled him through college and into the Ivy League at The University of Pennsylvania School of Law. From there, Mr. Myers started his legal career in a Philadelphia-based mega defense firm. After ten years defending corporate America, he realized his heart wasn’t in it. So, with his career on the fast track to success--he gave it all up and started his own firm. It was time to start fighting for the common guy.

That was twenty-five years ago and since then, he has focused on representing railroad employees and other honest, hard-working people who have been injured by others. He has represented thousands of clients in his tenure and has become a highly-regarded litigation attorney up and down the Eastern Seaboard.

Praise for STARWORLD

An unlikely friendship blossoms between two high school seniors…in the deft hands of co-authors Coulthurst (Inkmistress, 2018, etc.) and Garner (Relative Strangers, 2018, etc.), the well-realized main characters and deeply insightful descriptions of complex emotions combine into an unusually thoughtful novel…Readers seeking characters facing challenges with honesty, bravery, and kindness will appreciate this book with its reminder that our outward lives often don’t reflect who we really are. ―Kirkus Reviews

Sam Jones and Zoe Miller have one thing in common: they both want an escape from reality. Loner Sam flies under the radar at school and walks on eggshells at home to manage her mom’s obsessive-compulsive disorder, wondering how she can ever leave to pursue her dream of studying aerospace engineering. Popular, people-pleasing Zoe puts up walls so no one can see her true self: the girl who was abandoned as an infant, whose adoptive mother has cancer, and whose disabled brother is being sent away to live in a facility. When an unexpected encounter results in the girls’ exchanging phone numbers, they forge a connection through text messages that expands into a private universe they call Starworld. In Starworld, they find hilarious adventures, kindness and understanding, and the magic of being seen for who they really are. But when Sam’s feelings for Zoe turn into something more, will the universe they’ve built survive the inevitable explosion?

In a novel in two voices, a popular teen and an artistic loner forge an unlikely bond — and create an entire universe — via texts. But how long before the real world invades Starworld?

My Review

The saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover" comes to mind as I read this book. This is not directed to the book , but to direct that saying towards people. You don't know what a person it going through mentally....they may hide it well and keep secrets, or they be an introvert and keep to themselves because they have a difficult time letting people in...and this book is a perfect example of that. Reach out to someone you wouldn't normally speak to, you might just brighten their day or change their life.

Just like Zoe did for Sam...and Sam did for Zoe. Two girls that are completely opposite help each other in a way that changes their lives. Zoe is the popular girl, always involved in school activities, and has a boyfriend HOWEVER, she is hiding a lot from her friends because she feels she has to be upbeat, friendly and perfect all the time. Sam, keeps to herself, handling her mom with her OCD and anxiety, fearing her father doesn't love her anymore. So when Zoe discovers that Sam is a talented artist, and asks to use her art in a play, the friendship started. Sam is unsure why this popular girl would give her he time of day....but as they slowly get to know each other, they open up about what they are hiding, and create a world called Starworld where they both can escape...and fly away on a fire breathing dragon through the galaxy.

Starworld is such a sweet and heartfelt story. I ached for both main characters in this story...rejoiced with them as they both started to face their problems, and cried...oh, it's emotional.

I highly recommend this book....it flows perfectly and you will dive into it and be gasping for a breath.  I loved all the characters, the little twists and unexpected turns throughout, and the ending...wow...I didn't expect it, but it all turned out in the end.  All the bells and whistles for a fantastic read....and I usually don't read contemporary type books!

THE ISLE OF GOLD by Seven Jane Official Blog Tour

SYNOPSIS

Mystery, Myth & Magic Meet in an Epic Adventure of Two Women Lost at Sea—
and the Secret that Binds Them Together

AN ORPHAN DISGUISED AS A PIRATE SETS SAIL FOR A MYSTICAL ISLAND IN HOPES OF UNRAVELING THE MYSTERIES OF HER PAST

The year is 1716—the Golden Age of Pirates. An orphan who sleeps in the dusty kitchens of a quayside brothel, Merrin Smith is desperate to unravel the secrets of her past and find the truth about the events that brought her to the Caribbean island of Isla Perla as a child. Disguised as a sailor, and with the help of her longtime friend Claudette, Merrin joins the crew of the pirate ship Riptide, helmed by the notorious Captain Erik Winters. Tenacious and rumored a madman, Winters is known as much for his ruthlessness as for his connection to the enigmatic and beautiful proprietress of the Goodnight Mermaid, Evangeline Dahl, who vanished from Isla Perla two summers before.

At sunset the Riptide sails for the mythical island of Bracile, a place hidden between air and sea and that exists only for a moment every two years, and which has never returned any man who has sailed for its shores. The journey will be perilous and long, and it will take Merrin far away from the only home she’s ever known. Because she can read, Merrin will serve as the Captain’s apprentice, deciphering old texts for clues to the island’s whereabouts as the ship sails through haunted, frozen waters and into the very heart of the ocean. As she struggles to navigate the rough, seafaring life aboard a pirate ship, Merrin must keep her identity hidden from the scrupulous gaze of not only Captain Winters, but also Mister Brandon Dunn, the ship’s surly, legend-spouting quartermaster, and Tom Birch, the charming boatswain Merrin can’t help but feel drawn to.

As the Riptide makes its way to Bracile, Merrin begins to suspect that the men she has worked so hard to deceive may in fact be more connected to her than she would have imagined, and that perhaps her own past might have more to do with the Dunn’s legends and myths than she ever could have guessed.

In The Isle of Gold [Black Spot Books, October 9, 2018] Merrin Smith must face perilous waters, cursed sea goddesses, and the embodiments of some of the ocean’s most terrifying legends as she not only struggles to survive her journey, but to find the answers to the mysteries of her past.

A story where history meets fantasy, The Isle of Gold is an epic, emotional adventure of two women—one desperate to save herself, and the other determined to be rescued—and the secret which binds them together.

“For as long as men have sailed the ocean, they have told stories about the sea,” says Jane. “It’s a place of mystery, myth, and magic—and this makes The Isle of Gold a perfect setting for an epic adventure that is not only a tale of historical fiction, but of the very evolution of a woman’s spirit as she seeks to find herself in a world of unpredictability and uncertainty.”

“There is an old saying that ‘the cure for anything is saltwater—tears, sweat, or the sea.’ In The Isle of Gold, Merrin’s journey requires all three.”

My Review

An amazing story beautifully written, there were times I had to read this story out loud to not only experience the visual beauty, but to HEAR the words flow with dramatic charisma.  It was so full filling to absorb and lose yourself into this story.

Merrin knows when she decides to go on this adventure, she may not return from the edge of the world.  However her trust in Captain Winters with his obsession to find his love, gives her courage to try and find her true identity of her past.  She is disguised as a boy, who doesn't fit in with the rest of the crew.  Although, he/she is taken in under the wings of the Captain when he learns that he/she can read.

It takes months to get close to their destination, rations are running low, and the crew are getting restless.....Until....The real action starts to take place when truths are revealed, myths turn into realities, and sacrifices must be given.

I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. There is beauty within the pages, and truly, reading some passages out loud was mesmerizing.
