I love Torin St. James...
I need his strength…
But someone from his past wants me dead.

Raine Cooper is certain of two things: her love for Torin St. James and her destiny to be a powerful seeress. But when she starts having premonitions, they are unclear and disturbing. Worse, they involve Torin. With her mother gone, her father dying, and her best friend in Hel, she is not sure who to talk to.

But when the visions become more personal and she foresees her future with Torin threatened by someone from his past, Raine becomes desperate for answers. Just her luck two new students arrive at her school and they seem to have answers. When with them, her powers are enhanced and her visions become clear. There is only one problem: Torin forbids Raine to see the two girls.

Can their love survive without trust?

Runes Series Books:

 EXCERPT

In-between classes, I cocked my ear to catch the song again. No such luck.

Lunch time, Torin was waiting outside my class, a group of girls hanging on his every word. One reached up and brushed his shirt. That was crossing the line. I stake my claim when I reached his side, sliding my hand into his. They took off. “Groupies?”

He laughed. “No.”

“Next time Leanna Finch strokes your chest, I’ll break her fingers.”

“Who’s Leanna?”

I forgave him for not noticing. Girls were always pushing boundaries like damn predator checking for weaknesses. Someone needed to tell them Torin and I was tight. Fortified like Fort Knox. “Have you seen Ingrid?”

“No.” He stroked my cheek with his knuckles. “Are we eating here or at home? I can make us something.”

I wanted to stay there and let him stroke me. His touch was intoxicating. But first things first. “Okay, but I need to ask Ingrid something first.”

He went still. “About?”

“Something.” I reached up and kissed him. “Go. I’m right behind you.”

He didn’t look happy leaving me behind, which was sweet.

“I won’t take long,” I added.

He nodded. With a fingertip brush across my cheek, he disappeared into the men’s room to find a portal. I shook my head. Sometimes he could be so possessive. He hadn’t had a relationship in centuries and was learning to adjust to ours, which hadn’t exactly been smooth. What mattered was we loved it each other, knew it and cherished out time together. Whatever bumps laid ahead, and I was sure the Norns weren’t done with us, I was determined to never let them destroy what we had.

I turned the corner and saw Cora at the cafeteria entrance. Her lunch schedule depended on whether or not Echo was around. She waved.

“Please tell me you’re eating here. Please. Echo will be gone most of today and evening,” Cora explained. “There was a fire at some nursing home in Seattle.”

“I’m heading home, but you can join us. Torin already left to make something.”

She sighed melodramatically and looked around the cafeteria. “I don’t want to be a third wheel.”

“You won’t be.”

“Nah. Go enjoy your man.” She waved and I turned to see three girls from the swim team, Kicker, Sonya and Tess. “I’ll join the girls and catch up on the latest gossip. See you tonight.”

“You want to come and watch The Originals online? I missed last two episodes.”

Her eyes widened. “Ohmigod, the poor, damaged, just-needs-to-be-loved Klaus. I have to get my Klaus fix every week. I’ve even gotten Echo to tolerate him. Okay, I’ll watch with you, so we can hate on some witches. I also want your opinion on something.”

“Okay.” Ingrid, her cheerleader friends, and their jock boyfriends walked in.

Cora beamed at me and gave me a quick hug. “You’re the best.”

Everyone at Ingrid’s looked up questioningly when I stopped by their table. “What?”

“Where’s Torin?” a girl asked.

“Around. You know I can actually breathe without him. Ingrid.” I indicated outside with a nod and took off.

“What’s going on?” she asked, sounding a bit worried.

“I want to pick your brain.” Some of the students were hanging out on the deck. Others threw football in the grassy area along the building. It was still cold, but the sun was up and diehards were already wearing shorts. I found an area away from the others and faced her.

“You are beginning to worry me,” Ingrid said. “If this is about Andris—”

“No, this is about me. Do you remember I told you last night that I heard the woman sing during my vision?”

She nodded. “Varðlokur.”

“Varo-what?”

“The warding or spirit-summoning song. We sing it before the Seeress goes into a trance. What about it?”

“I thought I heard it this morning.”

Her frown deepened. “Where?”

“Here at school. What does that mean?” I saw a movement from the corner of my eyes and turned to look. It was Blaine. He waved.

“I don’t know. I guess whoever sang the song last night is a student here.”

“But the Seeress was older. At least, she sounded older.”

“Uh, that’s because the Seeress never does the singing. Someone else does. You sure it wasn’t the same voice?”

I nodded. Someone working with a Seeress was here at my school. “Is Blaine waiting for you?” He was talking to friends but he kept looking in our direction.

Ingrid waved to him. “No. Do you want me to point her out when I recognize her?”

“You can do that?”

She shrugged. “Oh, yes. It’s like, uh, having a witch radar. Why do you think Maliina hated you from the moment she saw you?”

“Uh, because Andris was being a total douche?”

She laughed. “That came second. My sister was a powerful Seidr witch, but in you, she saw something else. Something she’d never seen before and she was jealous. Maliina always wanted to be important and, uh, revered. Back at home, they did, but it wasn’t enough. Then she met Andris and he turned her. But he took her away from home and her adoring fans. She stopped being important and she didn’t like it. That’s why she joined the Norns. She was very ambitious.”

It didn’t excuse what she’d done, but it made sense. “So what did she see in me?”

Ingrid shrugged. “A more powerful witch, I guess. I’m not as strong as Maliina, but I should be able to spot the witch here at school. I’ll let you know when I do.”

“Thanks.” I really liked this new Ingrid. She stopped by the group with Blaine, said something to him and disappeared inside the building. Blaine followed her. I went to the nearest restroom and headed home to Torin.

My Review

First of all, If you haven't started this series, you should because you will be disappointed you missed this New release in the Runes Series.

Raine is still learning about her new abilities.  She is finally starting to have visions, however they aren't very clear.  Torin doesn't like this one bit.  Eirik is still MIA, and Raine's mother has gone to try to regain her Valkyrie status.  And Raine's dad isn't getting any better.

This story is fast paced and exciting with so much drama, you can't help but read late into the night to finish.  Twists and turns, Norns, and Raine's spunky behavior fits the bill nicely.  One thing I love about this series is that you really get to know all the characters.  Each one has a background that relates to the story in a significant way.  How everything is tied together is just complete brilliance.

You won't believe who is behind attacking the seeresses and who made the call to draw all the witches into town.  However, someone always has Raine's back.  Raine is becoming a little more confident in her abilities, and is getting upset with Torin's protectiveness.  Torin, Torin St.James....yeah, he's hot as ever I must say.

It's really interesting to see how the Immortals, Valkyries, Grimnirs, and witches all work together in this story.  It's creative how the story unfolds before your eyes.  It's one of those stories where the words literally disappear off the page.

TEASER

As though aware of my presence, Torin looked up and stood. I swallowed, my senses soaking him as though I hadn’t seen him earlier. I walked toward them, my heart racing so hard I felt lightheaded.

“Did you finish your eulogy, sweetie?” Mom asked.

“No, I need help. Kate wasn’t very outgoing, so we know next to nothing about her,” I said absentmindedly, my eyes not leaving Torin’s. I wanted to look away, but couldn’t. His eyes held me spellbound. He watched me as though every expression on my face was of utter importance to him. “I didn’t know you two had met,” I added, my voice breathless.

“Your mother and I met a few days ago,” he said, cocking his eyebrows. “I hope you don’t mind.”

“Why should I?” My face grew warm, the conversation we’d had in the closet at school flashing in my head.

“Torin wants to know if it’s okay for him to throw a party tomorrow night for the swim team. Isn’t that thoughtful of him to ask all the neighbors first?” Mom said.

“Just being neighborly, Mrs. Cooper.”

Rune Blog Tour and Giveaway

Title: Runes
Author: Ednah Walters
Publish Date: Published May 20th 2013 by Firetrail Publishing

Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her. Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run. Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only are she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life.
Runes is a powerful, intense read that is mystical and captivating with its original mythological twist.

Raine, the average teenage girl who starts falling for her childhood best friend Eirik, will have her whole world turned upside down when Torin St. James moves in next door. Torin St. James is mysterious, sexy, and distant. However, he always seems to show up when Raine is in danger. Eirik, is safe, predictable…home.

Raine starts to see things she can’t explain after Torin comes to her rescue. She becomes curious, and starts to research what she sees. When a few other new students show up, she notices that they are mysterious like Torin. However, she gets no answers from him, which leaves her more determined to discover their true nature.

This story just plain rocked my socks off. I know, I don’t give much of an actual synopsis of this story because it’s just one of those intense reads that you just have to check out yourself to discover how fantastic it really is. The storyline is fast paced with twists at every corner that will leave your head spinning out of control trying to figure out the result ending that you will never see coming. It’s a shocker, a gut wrenching puller that will leave you gasping, “You have got to be kidding me??!!??” Torin is sexy and hot to extreme levels. Eirik is just so sweet and true. There’s danger, mystery, and enemies that makes this story seem just that more incredible.

Ednah has out done herself with this series. It’s one of those that stays on your mind for a very long time. But how can it not? With the cliff hanger ending she left us with, you crave for the next installment to be released because you just don’t want this story to end.

Runes Excerpt in Torins POV:

Frisbee Scene
I kept an eye on Andris. Usually I just ignored him until it was time to lead new recruits home. Today, he was pissing me off. I didn’t like the look in his eyes when I’d arrived at the park and saw him talking to Raine and I didn’t like it now as he watched her play Frisbee. He’d worn the same look when he’d met his present girlfriend, Maliina. Within week, he’d started secretly runing her and turning her into an immortal. By the time I’d found out, it had been too late.
My gaze swung to Raine and I grinned. She sucked at Ultimate Frisbee, but made up for it with determination and enthusiasm. She jumped to catch the Frisbee, but Maliina cut her off, using runes to cheat. No surprise there. Andris had no control over her or he would have taught her never to cheat.
Maliina cut off Raine, the runes on her skin glowing. Something cold clasped my chest when she turned, one leg whipping out in a roundhouse kick.
What in Hel’s Mist?
I didn’t stop to think. I took off, willing runes for speed and invisibility on my skin. Raine couldn’t survive a kick by one of one, but I was too later. Maliina’s foot connected with Raine’s chest and I barely caught her as she flew backwards.
Maliina’s eyes connected with mine and fear flashed in hers. She had crossed the line by attacking a Mortal and would pay if I had anything to do with it.
Raine’s breathing was labored. “Can’t… breathe…”
“Hang in there for me.” Her ribs were broken, her sternum snapped into two. I gently lowered her to the ground and reached for a runic blade. I didn’t care whether what I was about to do was right or wrong. I had to save her.  “Easy, Freckles. You’ll be okay in seconds.”
I etched the runes on her arm then put the blade away. A few students and the coach were already running toward us, including her blonde friend and Eirik Seville.
“What happened?” Eirik asked.
“She slipped.” I stepped away as he knelt on her other side. The look he threw me said he didn’t believe me. Of course, he couldn’t possibly know of what I’d done. Mortals couldn’t see runes. Cora joined him, and together, they fussed over Raine, stroking her face, her hair. My gaze didn’t shift from her eyes.
Come on, Freckles Open your eyes. The runes had better work or someone was going to be sorry. Raine couldn’t die. Not yet. As though she’d heard me, her eyelids flattered then lifted. I grinned with relief. Time to talk with Andris.
“Are you okay?” Eirik asked Raine.
“What happened?” Cora asked at the same time.
Raine struggled to a sitting position, the others helping her. I knew I should leave, but I couldn’t until she was back to her snarky self.
“Is she okay?” Coach Fletcher yelled, hurrying toward us.
“She’s fine,” I said. “She lost her balance and fell.”
Raine started to turn and look at me, but Cora and Eirik grabbed her arms and helped her up. “I’m fine,” she insisted. “Really.”
Coach Fletcher studied her face. “Did you bang your head?”
“No.”
He glanced at me. “St. James?”
“No, she didn’t. She tripped and landed on her butt. She’s fine.” When the coach nodded, I took off. Andris and I were going to have a long talk about Maliina.
I glanced back one last time and caught Raine staring at me. I grinned, wondering if she knew I had healed her
Club Scene
Music greeted me when I reached the club’s entrance. I paid the fee and walked past two buff bouncers, who eyed me suspiciously. I ignored them and entered the lounge, which brimmed with students. I recognized some from the Ultimate Frisbee game at the park.
I made eye contact with a few and nodded, but I kept my distance. I was here to keep an eye on Andris and his girls, not socialize. I hadn’t gotten a chance to have our little chat after the incident with Raine because of they were hanging out with Mortals.
I gave my order and turned to give the room another sweeping glance.
“No alcohol, dude,” the bartender said. “It’s high-school night.” His eyes narrowed. “Are you sure you’re in high school?”
“Why would I be in here?” I said.
The guy smirked. “Show me some I.D.”
I wanted to flip him, maybe rune him, but we were already drawing attention. I pulled out my wallet and studied my latest I.D., New York driver’s license. I hadn’t changed it. It stated that I was twenty-five. The bartender signaled the bouncer. I rolled my eyes, grabbed a second I.D. and passed it to him.
He glanced at it and frowned. “Denmark?”
“It’s a country in Europe, legal drinking age eighteen,” I pointed out.
He sneered. “Well, this is USA, legal drinking age twenty-one.” He slapped the I.D. on the table. “So, what will it be, Denmark?”
I studied him as one would a bug I wanted to squash. Too bad I couldn’t without consequences. “Nothing.”
I found a corner table, sat and fixed my gaze on the door. Two guys, one with a punk haircut and electric blue side bangs and the other with a Mohawk with blond highlights, entered the lounge from the dance floor and yelled something. Half of the students got up and disappeared into the dance room. A group of four girls kept whispering and staring my way.
One of them approached my table. I cocked my brow and she stopped. She smiled nervously. “Uh, my friends and I, uh, are wondering if you’d like to join us.”
“No, I wouldn’t.”
Her smile slipped, her face turning red. She turned to leave. Raine would not have given up so quickly. She would have pushed and challenged me, until she got a rise out of it. On the other hand, she would not have asked me to join her. She didn’t like me very much.
“What’s your name?” I called out.
The girl turned around and smiled. “Jess.”
She was actually pretty with violet eyes and black hair. “Are you with the swim team, Jess?”
She nodded. “Yes.”
“Sit.”
She looked at her friends. “Can my friends join us too?”
I studied the other three girls and shrugged. They were entertaining for about a few minutes, then I lost interest. They were boring. I was about to tell them to leave when Raine entered the lounge. My breath stalled.
Endless legs. Slender waist. Hair framing her breathtaking face. She took my breath away. If she were mine, I would not want to share her with anyone. My gaze didn’t leave her until she disappeared inside the partition separation the lounge from the dance floor.
“Surprise! Happy birthday, Raine,” a cheer rang out then a happy birthday started.
I stood. “Ladies,” I glanced at Jess then her friends, “I have to go.
