New Releases

Katharine McGee

New York City as you’ve never seen it before. A thousand-story tower stretching into the sky. A glittering vision of the future, where anything is possible—if you want it enough.
Welcome to Manhattan, 2118.
A hundred years in the future, New York is a city of innovation and dreams. But people never change: everyone here wants something…and everyone has something to lose.
Leda Cole’s flawless exterior belies a secret addiction—to a drug she never should have tried and a boy she never should have touched.
Eris Dodd-Radson’s beautiful, carefree life falls to pieces when a heartbreaking betrayal tears her family apart.
Rylin Myers’s job on one of the highest floors sweeps her into a world—and a romance—she never imagined…but will her new life cost Rylin her old one?
Watt Bakradi is a tech genius with a secret: he knows everything about everyone. But when he’s hired to spy by an upper-floor girl, he finds himself caught up in a complicated web of lies.
And living above everyone else on the thousandth floor is Avery Fuller, the girl genetically designed to be perfect. The girl who seems to have it all—yet is tormented by the one thing she can never have.
Debut author Katharine McGee has created a breathtakingly original series filled with high-tech luxury and futuristic glamour, where the impossible feels just within reach. But in this world, the higher you go, the farther there is to fall….

You wake up alone in a horrible land. A horn sounds. The Call has begun.

The Sidhe are close. They're the most beautiful and terrible people you've ever seen. And they've seen you.

Nessa will be Called soon. No one thinks she has any chance to survive. But she's determined to prove them wrong.

Could you survive the Call?

A genre-changing blend of fantasy, horror, and folkore, The Call won't ever leave your mind from the moment you choose to answer it.

Elias and Laia are running for their lives.
Following the events of the Fourth Trial, an army led by Masks hunts the two fugitives as they escape the city of Serra and journey across the vast lands of the Martial Empire.
Laia is determined to break into Kauf—the Empire’s most secure and dangerous prison—and save her brother, whose knowledge of Serric steel is the key to the Scholars' future. And Elias is determined to stay by Laia’s side...even if it means giving up his own chance at freedom.
But Elias and Laia will have to fight every step of the way if they’re going to outsmart their enemies: the bloodthirsty Emperor Marcus, the merciless Commandant, the sadistic Warden of Kauf, and, most heartbreaking of all, Helene—Elias’s former friend and the Empire’s newest Blood Shrike.

Helene’s mission is horrifying, unwanted, and clear: find the traitor Elias Veturius and the Scholar slave who helped him escape...and kill them both.

Vial Things Book Blast

Leah Clifford is back with a BLOODY good young adult novel that you don’t want to miss. And at $2.99 – there’s no reason to!
Vial Things Synopsis
As an eighteen-year-old resurrectionist, Allie knows staying vigilant means staying alive. The blood of the resurrectionists is heavily regulated, only used with the express permission of the group’s leaders for fear of being discovered. She’s taken every precaution--self-defense classes since childhood, extensive weapons training with knives, and even going so far as to befriend a homeless boy named Ploy, who unknowingly trades a few nights a week on her couch in exchange for being a human tripwire to those after her blood.
But as Allie and Ploy’s feelings for each other grow, and a hunter starts taking out the resurrectionists of Fissure’s Whipp, Allie begins to realize even her best laid plans won’t be enough to keep both Ploy and herself safe.
Protecting a girl he shouldn’t love, from a threat he understands too well, Ploy must face his past to save his future in Allie’s world--a world where bringing back the dead can cost you your life.

Insane About Books Is 5 Years Old Giveaway

So my blog turned 5 years old the beginning of August...my first post was on August 5th.

Do I have stats? Nope.  I don't have stats to share, I blog for fun. Blog when I have time.  If I kept stats I would probably have anxiety because I would feel I wasn't doing enough...and that would spoil all the fun for me.

Hopefully over the years, if you follow me in some way, you found something useful and fun that is related to books.

So I am going to do two giveaways. One is US only, and one is international only.  The US only will be a mystery box full of swag that I have gathered over the years, and contain 4 ARCs that I got at Bookcon.  The international giveaway will be for $20 in US funds to the Book Depository if it ships to your country.

Over the past five years, I have met some amazing people and Rock star Authors.  I have learned a TON, and you bloggers that I have met are awesome!  Thanks so much for the ride, and I hope this insanely incredible hobby continues on.

Newsletter News: Given to the Sea by Mindy McGinnis Cover Reveal

So, Mindy McGinnis released a cover Reveal on her Newsletter and it's absolutely BEAUTIFUL!  I just had to Share!  Put this on my TBR list!

Khosa is Given to the Sea, a girl born to be fed to the water, her flesh preventing a wave like the one that destroyed the Kingdom of Stille in days of old. But before she’s allowed to dance – an uncontrollable twitching of the limbs that will carry her to the shore in a frenzy – she must produce an heir. Yet the thought of human touch sends shudders down her spine that not even the sound of the tide can match.

Vincent is third in line to inherit his throne, royalty in a kingdom where the old linger and the young inherit only boredom. When Khosa arrives without an heir he knows his father will ensure she fulfills her duty, at whatever cost. Torn between protecting the throne he will someday fill, and the girl whose fate is tied to its very existence, Vincent’s loyalty is at odds with his heart.

Dara and Donil are the last of the Indiri, a native race whose dwindling magic grows weaker as the island country fades. Animals cease to bear young, creatures of the sea take to the land, and the Pietra – fierce fighters who destroyed the Indiri a generation before – are now marching from their stony shores for the twin’s adopted homeland, Stille.

Witt leads the Pietra, their army the only family he has ever known. The stone shores harbor a secret, a growing threat that will envelop the entire land – and he will conquer every speck of soil to ensure the survival of his people.

The tides are turning in Stille, where royals scheme, Pietrans march, and the rising sea calls for its Given.

Killfile by Christopher Farnsworth On Sale TODAY

It features a psychic soldier-for-hire named John Smith, a man with a gift that's more like a curse: the ability to read minds. His talent once made him one of the CIA's top operatives, but he left the agency to go into business for himself, solving the problems of the people rich enough to afford his special skills. Now Smith finds himself running for his life when he goes up against a boy-genius software billionaire who will kill to keep Smith from getting inside his head.
You can read the first chapter of the novel here. And if you like it, you can order it from AmazonBarnes & NobleBooks-A-MillioniBooksKobo, or from your local independent bookstore through IndieBound.
Here are some early reviews of KILLFILE:
Kirkus Reviews: A "flip, unusually compelling hero... Farnsworth stands to expand his following with this clever, offbeat thriller."
The Big Thrill Magazine: "Farnsworth’s creation of John Smith is masterful... Within the first couple of pages, Smith’s world was reality for me. Add in relentless action and humor drier than martini-dissolved bone, and you have a winner."
Publishers Weekly: "John’s psychic abilities save them time and again in a series of entertaining variations on mental suggestion and illusion, convincing would-be assassins to overlook his presence and attack one another."
Kings River Life Magazine: "Farnsworth keeps the pace pedal pressed to the metal creating a thrill ride worthy of an amusement park or a movie screen."
The early readers on Amazon also like it: "Start this novel and you won't put it down. I recommend it highly." "Killfile had me missing TV shows, avoiding the internet, and missing out on sleep – very sticky indeed!" "I zoomed through this book, enjoying every minute of it... I'm not usually a fan of series books but I'd like to read more about John Smith in future adventures."
KILLFILE also made The Verge and Kirkus Reviews' lists of top sci-fi and fantasy titles for August.

Review: Vial Things by Leah Clifford

                   A Resurrectionist Novel #1

When the resurrectionists of Fissure's Whipp begin disappearing, eighteen-year-old Allie knows someone is after their blood—or, more accurately, the genetic mutation that allows their blood to heal wounds, save lives and even bring back the recently deceased.

Raised by her aunt after her parents' deaths, Allie knows staying vigilant means staying alive. She's trained her whole life to protect herself by any means necessary, from self defense classes to extensive weapons training in knives. Now, she’s gone so far as to befriend a homeless boy named Ploy who unknowingly trades a few nights a week on her couch in exchange for being a human tripwire to those hunting her.

But as Allie and Ploy's feelings for each other grow, Allie realizes this time, she'll need more than fighting skills and a sharp blade to beat a villain literally out for blood.

Protecting a girl he shouldn’t love, from a threat he understands too well, Ploy must face his past to save his future in Allie’s world—a world where bringing back the dead can cost you your life.

My Review

Fantastic read full of suspense and nail biting action!

Vial Things is one of those stories that unravels itself in little segments, however rushes like a flooded river at the same time. The anticipation is REAL as you put together the clues to Allie's secret life and torment.

Allie is always staying under the radar, looking over her shoulder while she tries to stay absent from the "family business."  With her special genetic blood, she can heal herself, and bring others back from the dead with some restrictions. She has been trained from an early age to protect herself, because there are those out there who would LOVE to get their hands on the blood. Soooo, a secret group is formed to keep things in order, and to keep her and a slim few protected.

Allie doesn't trust people...at all...and has learned to keep her wall up.  She meets Ploy, a street boy who she lets sleep on the couch for the only purpose to use him for protection.....BUT....she will be surprised to learn that Ploy is using her also.  When Allie is forced to help Ploy out of guilt, her life will change drastically as they both start running from danger that is at EVERY turn.  Trying to keep her feelings at bay, Allie starts to fall for Ploy even though she knows she will regret it.

I <heart> this book so much....it has EVERYTHING that I want to lose myself in.
Creative story
Strong Characters
A true escape from reality

The words disappeared as I read this story, and I found the building of this story  with anticipation and mystery completely brilliant. Loss, friendship, betrayal, love, cruelty, hate....so many emotions will seep from your core like you are living the story yourself. Allie and Ploy...*sigh*  Ploy may have a different agenda, but his need to protect Allie is just....*sigh*  You will root for him even though there maybe times you don't like him.

LOVED this book...YOU need to read it...devour it...consume all of its creative juices!
