So a few weeks ago, I got to meet one of my all time FAVORITE author, Terry Brooks, of the Shannara Series. Truly a dream come true.
I first started reading this series when I was 15 years old. I'm a little older than that now.
I got my oldest son into reading his books and he is a fan now too.
I took a total of 9 books with me to sign. Plus a few book plates. He also signed a book sleeve for me that I thought was pretty awesome!!
I thought I brought a lot of books with me, I was blown away by his fans. There were several that brought Totes and duffle bags FULL of his books....He was so amazing, took time with each reader, and truly listened to them.
One thing that I found amazing that I didn't know is that he grew up and lived in a town that is about 30 minutes away from me and I had NO IDEA!!
If you ever get the chance to attend, GO.....He was funny and down to earth.
Also got to listen to him read from a new project that he is working on. A new fantasy series....that sounds ..... well, it's Terry....AMAZING!!
Which reality would you choose? Seventeen year-old Emily's dad is in prison for securities fraud and her mom's strung-out on pain meds, leaving Emily to parent herself and her younger brothers and sister. She's got things mostly under control until a couple weeks before Dad's release, when voices start whispering in her head, and Gabe, the hot lifeguard at the pool, notices the strange brands engraved on her arm...the ones she's trying desperately to hide. Emily doesn't know how the symbols got there or what they mean. They appeared overnight and now they're infected and bleeding. She's pretty sure she's losing her mind. Stress, insomnia, and her wounded egos drive Emily to self-medicate, which has to be why the nightmares from her childhood have resurfaced, why they're commandeering her conscious even when she's awake. It has to be why the fairytale creatures she created as a little girl insist they need her help. Triggered by the return of her childhood abuser and unable to cope with reality, Emily slips completely inside her elaborate fantasy world. She's powerful in the First Realm, maybe even more powerful than her attacker. It would be so easy to stay there, to lose herself in enchantment...to lose herself in love. But something sinister lurks in the forest shadows. Emily soon discovers her demons have followed her inside her fairytale. They're hunting her. With the help of the Fae, she frantically searches for the weapons she needs to defeat her greatest fears and escape back to reality before the man who tortured her can prey on her younger brothers and sister, too. Time is running out...
*Non-explicit Trigger Warning: This book deals with issues of child molestation and abuse.

So while life on Mars may have been deadly, at least up there she knew who the enemy was. Along with her, Liz has brought the remnants of the artificial intelligence that waged war on two planets. Buried somewhere deep within the cold electronic circuits lies the last vestiges of her dead partner Jianyu. Liz is torn, unsure whether he’s somehow still alive in electronic form or just a ploy by an adversary that will go to any length to win. Heartbroken and treated with suspicion, she finds herself caught up in the guerrilla war being waged on Earth, wondering if the AI threat is truly gone, or if it has only just begun. .
Praise for REENTRY "It's good to consider the AI possibilities ahead. Peter Cawdron's REENTRY is a marvelous read but also an intriguing scenario for what might go on within the superintelligences." ―Vernor Vinge, Hugo Award-winning author of A Fire Upon the Deep and A Deepness in the Sky
My Review
This is one Science Fiction Series you want to get your hands on!
Reentry is the second installment in this series, with Retrograde being the first. I highly recommend that you read Retrograde first...not that Reentry couldn't be read alone, and not completely be lost in the story, you just NEED to read it also to fall for the story line and characters that are incredible.
This story is solid....solid as a planet, with crazy good imagination and ultra surprising plot twists. WOW! Your brain will be tickled with ideas that will make you think...think about how real this whole AI can get someday in the near future...Super crazy!!
It's a G4 speed paced....time will disappear as you emerge yourself into this story...it pulls you in like gravity and can not be ignored. The story is beautifully written making the words come to life. The main character Liz, has a strong personality as all the characters do in this story. Each one playing a critical roll...I mean characters in this story have a lot happen to them that makes them who they are, and totally gives you all those emotional feels.
This is definitely one of my favorite Sci-Fi books that I have read in a long time and I think you should blast off into it's depth right away!

Praise for NEVER-CONTENTED THINGS “Sarah Porter is a genius. Her language is lush and dangerous, and her books burn with the beautiful, ferocious intensity of a bonfire in the darkest night. Read Never-Contented Things with the lights on. Then read it again.” ―Brittany Cavallaro, New York Timesbestselling author of A Study in Charlotte “Sarah Porter’s Never-Contented Things creates a creepy new world like none I’ve seen before. Eerie, edgy, and filled with mystery, Porter takes us to the depths of the magical and psychological.” ―Danielle Paige, New York Timesbestselling author of Dorothy Must Die
Praise for WHEN I CAST YOUR SHADOW “You’ll never think of your nightmares the same way again. Darkly seductive. Sarah Porter’s writing glitters and her storytelling stuns in this twisted tale of siblings, love, and death.” —Stephanie Garber, New York Timesbestselling author of CARAVAL
“Sarah Porter’s darkly imaginative WHEN I CAST YOUR SHADOW intrigues from the start. Tragic and engrossing, filled with nightmarish dreamscapes and menacing villains, it also treads the tender terrain of family, and the strange and sometimes dysfunctional ties between siblings. Highly recommended!” —Kendare Blake, New York Timesbestselling author of THREE DARK CROWNS
My Review
If you like a dark, creepy read, this one is for you. It is full of bizarre imagination, unusual situations, and overflowing with beautiful words that bursts from the pages.
The three main characters in this story is Ksenia, Josh and Lexi. Ksenia and Josh are foster siblings with a rare relationship. Lexi is friends more with Josh, because Ksenia is withdrawn and leery of letting people in.
One night, Ksenia and Josh decide to go to the gorge where the local teenagers hang out. However, no one was there. They hike farther down, where they discover a group of people dancing and having a party. These people are strangely beautiful, and soon convince Josh to go through the woods with him. When Ksenia wakes up, Josh is gone...the town searches, and the world will forever change for the three friends.
The Fae in this story are cruel and manipulative. They thrive on raw emotions.
This story is beautifully written and kept my devoted attention. Although there is a somewhat taboo relationship between Josh and Ksenia, once you get further into the story, you will understand it better. All three main characters are forced to face their demons to escape a world they never knew existed. It's dark and twisted in a good way...and keeps you glued to the pages to find out what will happen next.
It is a story about redemption, learning to love yourself, and true sacrifice.
If you are looking for something a little different, full of enhanced imagination, this read will be perfect for you.
