Which Way would you follow?

When Laz, a young wombat, goes from playing a game with his friend Kita in their idyllic tribal village to witnessing the nightmare of a Tasmanian devil attack, he reacts in the only way he can: he fights back. He accidentally kills a devil while trying to save his sister, but his sister is still taken captive. To make matters worse, the tribal elders banish Laz, Kita and Zeeg—the three youths who fought back—for failing to follow the way of the wombat.

Frustrated and adrift, the three friends embark on a quest through red rocky deserts and deep eucalyptus jungles to discover their own way. With a cheerful koala warrior as a guide and a wise platypus as their trainer, they hope to survive long enough to find a legendary weapon that could save their tribe and Laz’s sister from the devils. But danger lurks around every tree…

My Review

What a FUN Middle grade read for all ages!

It is stories like this that I wish my children were still at the age to read these books. Actually, age doesn't matter.  They feel too old to sit down and read with me.  This is the perfect adventure for a family sit down and escape into the pages.

Laz, Kita and Zeeg have went against the ways of the Wombat and are banished.  Even though they were protecting themselves and others, the elders don't see it that way.  These three wombats realize that beliefs need to change, otherwise their clan will cease to exist.

Along their adventure, they meet allies that will help them discover the way of earth, wind, fire, shadow, and water.  And with this knowledge, the wood of a special tree will help make weapons that will help with their mission of protection.

The Way of the Wombat: Quest for Gray Ironbark is a fabulous adventure for all ages.  It is a story of friendship, loyalty, betrayal, and learning to go outside your comfort zone to accomplish your goals.  Laz, Kita and Zeeg meet obstacles and beasts along the way that prove if they work as a team, and not against each other, they can win.  Knowledge is power,...and as they look deep into themselves, they learn and discover their true worth.

You can't help but fall for these characters and their personalities.  They each have a story that gives them the drive to meet the goals.  You feel their excitement, their heartache, and desire all throughout the story.  Their courage to stand up to their elders and band with allies for protection, makes for a great new generation on Wombats.

I am sure this adventure isn't over.
