SYNOPSIS
Wordless
Words Made Flesh #1
Author: AdriAnne Strickland
Release Date: August 8th
Publisher: Flux

“The Gods made their Words into flesh, giving privileged individuals the powers of creation...”

In Eden City, a member of the illiterate wordless class would never dream of meeting the all-powerful Words ... much less of running away with one. So when a gorgeous girl literally falls into his lap during a routine trash run, seventeen-year-old Tavin Barnes isn’t sure if it’s the luckiest or worst day of his life. That girl is Khaya, the Word of Life, who can heal a wound or command an ivy bush to devour a city block with ease. And yet she needs Tavin’s help.

By aiding Khaya’s escape from the seemingly idyllic confines of Eden City, Tavin unwittingly throws himself into the heart of a conflict that is threatening to tear the world apart. Eden City’s elite will stop at nothing to protect the shocking secret Khaya hides, and they enlist the other Words, each with their own frightening powers, to bring her back.

PRAISE

"Just the right amount of pizzazz in the form of cinematic action and naked, sexy fun.... [An] intriguing, original science-fantasy setting sure to attract fans." - Kirkus Reviews

"A fast-paced blend of sci-fi and fantasy with scary real-world implications, Wordless grabbed hold of me from the start and wouldn't let me go. Brilliant." - Chelsea Pitcher, author of The S-Word and The Last Changeling

"Strickland's fast-paced debut... raises questions of identity and belonging.... Even the least ethical characters prove emotionally vulnerable." - Publishers Weekly

My Review

I have always believed in the power of words. Whether it is the power of God's word, the power of Literacy, or the power of your voice, words are powerful. Words can express love, hate, envy, jealously, gratitude, compassion...it is endless.
Wordless captures that thought with an empowering drama filled with action and the hope of saving the wordless society.

Imagine a whole society completely illiterate.  Only a selected few, chosen from the God's in the beginning, have the power of word, and those few trained in words to use that power.  Frightening, Huh?

Tavin, a wordless citizen of Eden City, is a trash collector.  When he meets Khaya, the Word of Life, his whole world changes. On the run because he has promised to help Khaya escape, they are hunted every step of the way to safety, if there is even a place like that to exist for them.

Wordless...this story is fast paced from the beginning to end with those twists that bring out incredible imagination.  This world is completely original and well planned out with so much adventure.  I love a story that jumps off the page so I can envision it in my mind.  The pages flew by with anticipation on where the story was going to progress next.  Tavin starts to fall for Khaya, and the "butterflies in the stomach" were sure there.  When all hope is lost, help comes where you least expect it.  The ending is powerful, heartbreaking, and wonderful all at the same time. I would have NEVER seen that ending coming.

I fell for the characters in this story.  Each one had a distinct personality.  Some you love, some you hate, but every story needs that to make it complete. As I started to get to know the Words, I realized a few are just as lost as the average wordless....just wanting to live life and be normal.

With each new author I discover, and dive into the worlds they create, I am fascinated by the imagination and creativity.  Wordless falls into that category. I can not wait to see where this story goes.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
AdriAnne Strickland was a bibliophile who wanted to be an author before she knew what either of those words meant. She shares a home base in Alaska with her husband, but has spent two cumulative years living abroad in Africa, Asia, and Europe. While writing occupies most of her time, she commercial fishes every summer in Bristol Bay, because she can't seem to stop. Her debut YA sci-fi/fantasy, WORDLESS, is coming 2014 from Flux Books.
