“Ender, Katniss, and now Darrow.”—Scott Sigler

Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he spends his life willingly, knowing that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children.

But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and sprawling parks spread across the planet. Darrow—and Reds like him—are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class.

Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity’s overlords struggle for power.  He will be forced to compete for his life and the very future of civilization against the best and most brutal of Society’s ruling class. There, he will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies . . . even if it means he has to become one of them to do so.

About Pierce Brown
Pierce Brown spent his childhood building forts and setting traps for cousins in the woods of six states and the deserts of two. Graduating from college in 2010, he fancied the idea of continuing his studies at Hogwarts. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a magical bone in his body. So while trying to make it as a writer, he worked as a manager of social media at a startup tech company, toiled as a peon on the Disney lot at ABC Studios, did his time as an NBC page, and gave sleep deprivation a new meaning during his stint as an aide on a U.S. Senate campaign. Now he lives Los Angeles, where he scribbles tales of spaceships, wizards, ghouls, and most things old or bizarre.

BLURB

One lost love.

One lost best friend.

One hot soul reaper.

Straight out of the psyche ward, Cora just wants her life to be normal. She doesn’t want to see souls or the reapers collecting them. The love of her life, the guy she’s loved from a distance for years, has moved away without saying goodbye. So yes, she’s nursing a serious heartbreak. It’s no wonder love is the last thing on her mind when Echo storms into her life.

The chemistry between them is mind-blowing. The connection defies logic. It doesn’t help that Echo is the poster boy for everything she hates in a guy—hot, beautiful, and cocky. A general pain-in-the-butt. Being around him makes her feel more alive than she’s ever felt before. But more important, the souls leave her alone when he is around.

Echo is perfect for her. Echo might even be her soul-mate. There is only one problem. Echo is a freaking soul reaper. A Grimnir. The very beings she wants out of her life. Maybe normal is overrated because Cora wants it all. Answers. Love. A life. You see, once you fall for a Grimnir, your life will never be the same again.

My Review

Grimnirs rocks the Runes series with an incredible storyline, hot guys, and intense action!

The Runes series continues with the third installment called Grimnirs, featuring Cora and Echo.

Cora has just arrived home from PMI, and trying to adjust to seeing souls. She becomes confused when everyone at school acts as though she has only been gone for a week, when actually its been a lot longer. She is told about things she did, which never could have happened. As she just goes along with what she's told, she's in her room when Echo arrives, acting like they are lovers. She finally convinces him she doesn't remember him, and that's when he realises the Norns must have erased her memory. Then the real adventure begins.

I can't say how much I LOVE this series. Grimnirs takes a different spin by focusing on Cora and Echo instead of Raine and Torin. We learn more about Echo, which I feel will be vital as the series progresses. Cora's attraction to Echo is undeniable. Echo is mysterious. Of course, our favorite characters are all present throughout the story. Cora learns more about the world she has no choice to accept. The whole plot is brilliant how it ties in with the previous installments, opening the world to a whole new level of adventure. It's the complete package with steamy romance, loyal friendships, alliances, intense action, and unexpected twists and turns. This series being one of my favorites, you won't be disappointed in Grimnirs.

Gorgeous Valkyries and Grimnirs, need I say more? You will definitely find a new book boyfriend here.

My Review

Song and Signal is one of those type of books that will help you harness your crazy Sci-fi geek self that you thought you lost.  I thought I lost it, since it's been a while that I have read a good sci-fi novel.  I can say, without a doubt, I'm psyched once again for the sci-fi genre.

Zak is alone, being raised by an alien, and doing crazy dangerous things to earn creds because he's dirt poor.  He's had a rough go, with his father taking off with a stolen ship, and mother dying at a very young age.  However, he has Liz...his best friend who is always there for him to get him out of trouble, and to scold him.

Zak has always wanted that BIG adventure...the adventure that will take him away across the universe to new places.  Little did Zak know, that a comm later, he will be on that intense adventure running for his life and running for the truth.

MAN, how I love this genre.  Song and Signal is unique and creative.  How I would love to get into M.E. Patterson's mind and learn how he created all these unique aliens.  The technology alone within this story plays a huge part, and is just the icing on the cake towards the creative imagination skills.  You will easily be able to visualize the space stations, vessels, aliens...well, I could go on but you need a little bit of surprise.

I adored all the characters....Zak is the go-without-thinking type. Liz, tries to be the logical one.  There's the loyal friends and evil villians that even out nicely.  But don't think you will know what to expect, no...no...no...it's got the twists and turns.  The story has some moments of humor, heartbreak, seriousness...it pretty much has all the ingredients for a great story.  So grab a copy of Song and Signal, and dive in to another world and time.

The Truth is out there.
(all around X-Files geek here for sure!)

SNEAK PEEK

“Dominique, please. Hear us out,” Dad said.
“No! You hear ME out! You brought me to this stupid city, and I hate it here! Everything about this place sucks, and now, because of you, I’m crazy!” Tear trickled down my face, and I wiped them away fast. “Okay? Fucking crazy! And it’s all your fault!”
Instantly I bit my lip because I regretted my words, but they were out already. Besides, they needed to know how pissed I was.
Dad paced the room. “You have every right to be upset, Dominique. We never meant for any of this to happen.”
I didn’t even notice Farrell at my side until he took my hand.  “Dominique, I told you. You’re not crazy.”

My head began to swoon. My knees buckled. Every time I was near Farrell, a funny feeling came over me. Sometimes it was a subtle dizziness, other times a tingle throughout my body, but always the feeling warmed me. Calmed me. And seemed so natural and familiar.
“What are you doing to me?” I whispered.

EXCERPT:
“HELP! I’VE BEEN KIDNAPPED. SOMEONE HEL…”
Suddenly, I am grabbed from behind and dragged into the bedroom and thrown on the bed like a rag doll. I try to roll onto my back but instead a weight settles on my back, and my face gets shoved into the mattress.
“Shut the fuck up, bitch.”
The voice is not Deacon’s. I freeze as shock runs through my body from head to toe, paralyzing me in fear.
“Lover boy isn’t here to save you. It might be worth facing his anger to shut you up permanently.”
I don’t speak. I’m afraid to move. Who is this man? He moves off me so he can roughly flip me over. I stare up into his hard eyes. He’s not an attractive man. Light hair, pointy nose, and lips so thin they’re hardly there at all. He has a scar that runs from the tip of his eyebrow to the middle of his cheek. “Leave me alone.”
“I don’t think I will… what does he call you? Princess? I don’t think I will, princess.” He says mockingly. Then, to my horror he runs his hand down the front of my body, squeezing my breasts painfully and then gripping my hip. His breathing starts quickening.
“No, please don’t touch me.”
“That’s right, beg, you bitch. Next time you will think twice about breaking the rules and trying to yell for help.”
Oh God. He’s going to hurt me, or worse. I do the only thing I can. I start struggling. I kick my legs like a three-year-old having a tantrum. I throw my head back and forth and get one of my hands loose and scrape my nails down the front of his face. “Let go of me!” I scream.

MY REVIEW

After an intense cliffhanger in Pretty Little Lies, Pretty Little Dreams steps up the pace.

Olivia and Luke have a lot to get through together.  The past love will be put through devastating trials as they both try to come to terms with the abuse Olivia has lived through.  Luke is with her every step of the way, except it's difficult for Olivia to completely trust again...and that is understandable with everything she has been through.

Pretty Little Dreams is SO incredible!  The characters that I fell in love with in Pretty Little Lies are in full force and full of surprises.  Just when you think Olivia will get through her ordeal...WHAM!!  There's love, undying friendships, drama galore in this incredible journey of trying to find your first love all over again.

Pyper is the best of best friends.  She is sassy and supports Olivia just as a true friend should.  Luke is an old school romantic, determined to never let Olivia go again. and the x-husband, well, he doesn't even deserve to have his first name mentioned...he's as dirty as they come.  Olivia is proof that you can overcome horrific obstacles and has a spirit to prove it with all her amazing support team.

The whole plot is real and inspiring.  I could not get enough. It's one of those romances that leaves you satisfied from the first to the last word.  You MUST read this series, you will not be disappoint one bit!

Pretty Little Lies Review

Title: Pretty Little Lies

 Author: Jennifer Miller

Publish Date: Published June 12th 2013

Synopsis:
A little lie can change the course of everything. . . Like every other eighteen-year-old in love, Olivia has dreams of spending forever with the love of her life. Luke is all she’s ever wanted – until she overhears something she was never meant to. In a matter of seconds, Olivia’s heart is shattered. Olivia handles it the only way she knows how - she runs- leaving behind her family, friends and the boy she loves. Seeking comfort and an escape, Olivia finds it in resident bad boy Deacon. He’s everything Luke isn’t – and that’s fine with Olivia. Now, seven years later, Olivia is older, wiser and headed back to Chicago looking forward to a fresh start and reconnecting with her best friend Pyper. What she doesn’t expect, is to come face to face with the boy she left behind and discover that even though she may have left, her feelings for him didn’t. Can Olivia put aside the pain in her heart and trust Luke? Will the ties to her past ever let her go, or will she continue to let her life be affected by pretty little lies?
Pretty Little Lies is a romance that leads you through physical and emotional growth of true love.

Olivia has had her heart broken more than once. She is determined to piece back her emotions by starting fresh, and returning to her home town. She moves in with her best friend, Pyper, the one that she completely trusts, and start dating all over again.

When she runs into her first love, she will discover truths, and learning how to trust all over again. Pretty Little Lies is just completely AWESOMESAUCE!! I usually don’t read many romances, but I’m finding out that I LOVE them. Olivia has been through a lot. Never quite forgetting her first love….and lets be honest, who ever forgets their first love?

How many of us have the chance to make that first love work again? This story is full of hopeful romance, unexpected drama, and quirkiness that will keep you glued to the pages. I fell in love with the characters instantly. Luke is the sweetest guy ever and you will find yourself rooting for the two to get back together. HOWEVER, a story wouldn’t be interesting if there were not obstacles in the way. And BOY, is there a HUGE obstacle. The ending of course will leaves on a HUGE cliffhanger, but luckily, the new installment, Pretty Little Dreams has just been released. SO, you can continue on with the story. It is a great read that I highly recommend!

My Review

Fallen Star is a romance that is sweet, funny, and will take you on an Amtrak ride that you will never forget.

E.J. has dealt with a lot of heart ache the past few years, so he is about to leave from Chicago on a much needed vacation.  With Las Vegas as his final destination, he decides to take his time and see some sights along the way.  This is a time for him to reflect, and to start piecing his life back together after being put on hold for so long.

Then E.J. meets Annie in Chicago.

I usually don't read romance.  However, this story caught my attention and I was eager to give it a try.  Being a girl from the Midwest, being just hours between Chicago and St. Louis, I completely enjoyed the setting of this story.  Traveling through territory that I know, and places that I have visited, brought back my own memories.

E.J. was raised old school.  Being taught to be polite and put others before himself.  This is a rare quality these days and I fell head over heals for his character.  E.J. is exactly what Annie needs in her life to balance her out.  Their adventure along the rails was fun and humorous as they gradually started to learn more about each other, having fate throw them both on the same path.  Through the story, you gradually learn about each of their pasts, making them into who they are today.  However, you also feel their heartache and loneliness.  It was a refreshing read that still holds a place in my mind a week after I finished it.

Fallen Star is an amazing romance read that will grab your heart, and give you that satisfying feeling that destiny over rules.

Roomies Giveaway

The countdown to college has begun.

When Elizabeth receives her freshman-year roommate assignment at the beginning of summer, she shoots off an email to coordinate the basics: TV, microwave, mini-fridge. She can't wait to escape her New Jersey beach town, and her mom, and start life over in California.

The first note to Lauren in San Francisco comes as a surprise; she had requested a single. But if Lauren's learned anything from being the oldest of six, it's that you can't always get what you want, especially when what you want is privacy.

Soon the girls are emailing back and forth, sharing secrets even though they've never met. With family relationships and childhood friendships strained by change, it suddenly seems that the only people Elizabeth and Lauren can rely on are the complicated new boys in their lives...and each other.

With humor and heart, Sara Zarr, National Book Award finalist for Story of a Girl, and Tara Altebrando, acclaimed author of The Pursuit of Happiness, join forces for a novel about that time after high school, when everything feels like it's ending just as it's beginning.

The authors, Sara and Tara, will be touring for this book, so if you are in the area, please try to stop in and see them!

LITTLE, BROWN BOOKS FOR YOUNG READERS
    Introducing
, for the love of the book.

So, To help promote this book, The publisher is offering a giveaway! YEAH!  But First, I would like to share a Roomie Story!

So, I went to college with my best friend. We had been best friends since kindergarten, and decided to go off to college together and room together to make the transition easier for the both of us.  What I would soon learn, is that my BEST friend, enjoyed to party a little too much, and bring guys home often.  I spent many a nights sleeping in the lounge.  Not fun for me.  So pretty much after the first year of college, we decided not to room together again, however, be on the same floor.  The first year really put stress on our friendship.  Finally, I stood my ground and voiced my feelings to her, and that is when our friendship ended.  All those years, I finally learned that our friendship was one sided.  So after over 25 years later, we still have not spoken to each other.  There are times when I miss that friendship.

However, it goes on.  My oldest son was going off to college, and decided to room with his best friend.  I begged...pleaded...please don't room with him. It will ruin our friendship.   Alas, he did not heed my warning.  And that friendship ended too.

So, my advise, even though it seems like a good idea and you think you will have so much fun, DON'T ROOM WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND.  It's not worth risking that friendship.

So now for the giveaway.  The publisher is offering a copy of Roomies to one US only resident.  Please enter the rafflecopter!
