Annabelle's Story- Sprite Review and Blog Tour

Title: Sprite Author:
Leigh Michael Publish Date:
Published April 30th 2012 by CreateSpace

Synopsis:
Annabelle Walsh thought she had it all. She was the star of her swim team, had a loving family, a great boyfriend, and to top it off, she’d be starting at UCLA in the fall. One day, she’d be referred to as Dr. Annabelle Walsh. She was living every girl’s dream – until her life was turned upside down. All starting with finding out that she's not just a human, but also a water spirit. Half-human, half-sprite to be exact. Although not just any sprite, Annabelle is prophesied to be the only one who can save both the sprites and mankind. With a mix of current events, anecdotes from Greek mythology, tidbits of folklore, and Leigh’s own imagination, we join Annabelle in her journey to restore order beneath the sea. Each step of the way her mind, body, and soul are pushed to the limit begging the question, how much can one half-human, half-sprite take?
Who knew there was a whole other world that exists in the sea?

Annabelle was celebrating with her team on a big win for the swim team. Her parents and boyfriend are extremely excited for Annabelle and all she has accomplished. Funny how a perfect life can change so quickly.

Annabelle is kidnapped. Or is she? She was taken to the ocean and dragged out in the currents in a net where she has little movement. Starting to panic and thinking that she is going to drown, Annabelle discovers that she can breathe under water. She demands answers from her captive, but gets no where.

Annabelle soon discovers a whole new world below the sea. She is told that she is not completely human, but half human, half water sprite. The Mer people that have taken her in, believe that she is the one spoken of in a prophecy, the one that can save their world, as well as the human world. Annabelle has a hard time grasping this concept.

The prophecy takes Annabelle and a small group on a dangerous adventure. As they travel to find the clues, chaos is always waiting.

Annabelle’s story Sprite is an incredible under the sea novel that will take you away with the amazing visual description. I found myself holding my breath as I was reading. As much as Annabelle misses her family, she feels compelled to do the right thing by helping this almost extinct community. Titan and Greek gods and legends are intermixed with the Mer’s history. And who doesn’t love a little mischief from the Gods?!? It was an exciting adventure with creative plots, twists, and unexpected revelations. I look forward to how Annabelle’s adventure will continue in the sequel Kin.

Witch Devotions Review

Title: Witch Devotions

Author: Elizabeth J. Kolodziej

Publish Date: Published September 26th 2012 by Third Broom on the Left Press

Synopsis:

With Trent gone, Faith, the last witch in the world, feels she can not go on without him. The pain grows so intense that she shuts out her friends and loved ones to be alone; unsure of what to think about the paranormal world anymore.
However, on a trip to see Gordon she realizes what she can do to make the pain go away. A spell. But, the spell ends up back firing and Faith has now forgotten the past six months. All the memories of vampires, werewolves, and her magical training have vanished. And the first to find her is Louis who comes to whisk her away and change the course of her life forever.
Webs of lies and deceit have Faith feeling powerless and scared that when Louis gives her the option of becoming a slayer she takes it, hoping to get revenge on the race she believes stole the past six months of her life away. With the Goddess Circe interfering, Lilith still missing and Faith unable to remember Trent, no one knows what will happen next! However, when a stranger enters her life bringing with him secrets to her missing memories, Faith can no longer trust those around her and must figure out for herself who is good and who is evil. The world of vampires and werewolves or that of slayers. The coin is still up in the air and Faith must make a choice of where her devotions lie.
Witch Devotions takes the whole Last Witch series up a notch!

With each book in this series, the tension elevates and the action escalates.

Faith is devastated with the loss of Trent, her soul mate.  She can no longer endure the pain of the loss, and searches through her ancestral witch book to find a spell to take the pain away.  However, Faith didn't realize all the small details that would take this pain away.  She forgets the whole past six months, and learns all over again about the paranormal world and what she actually is, the last witch.

This story created several emotions while reading.  I would literally shout out, "Vincent!!  How could you do this to her??"  Yep, sometimes I yell at the characters as I'm reading...because sometimes they get me that frustrated!

New characters are introduced whom I quickly became fond of, and of course the old favorites where the book would not be complete without them.  Villians, you know those you love to hate, are in full force with some of the gods in that mix.  The action is incredible.  The hope that true love will prevail pumps thru your veins.

Power of the Moon Blog Tour and Review

Title: Power of the Moon

Author: Tina Carreiro

Publish Date: Expected publication: October 25th 2012 by Time and Tide Publsihing

 Synopsis:
Haunted by visions of death, and a past that holds her prisoner, Mia Starr never imagined her life could become even more complex. Untapped psychic powers spark to life, and her chosen solitary existence fills with creatures that shatter her safe reality. Now the very thing she fears the most is the one thing that will complete her in every way possible.
Detective Cole Barnett has mastered the vampire within. It has earned him respect and a position with Sector 13, the hardest job a vampire can hold. When a beautiful mortal is thrown into his investigation, with powers able to subjugate vampires, she tests his restraint.
Cole and Mia's passion ignites, but Mia's fear holds her back and she struggles to forget his touch and possessive kiss. What she doesn't realize is the more she runs from him, the more excited he becomes, and the hunt is something he cannot resist.

Mia works two jobs at the gas station and funeral home. She keeps to herself because of the visions she sees and dead people she hears. Little did Mia know that her world would be turned upside down when two “thugs” come into the gas station and attack her and take a loyal customer away.

Detective Cole Barnett arrives on the scene and is instantly drawn to Mia. He works the night shift in special forces known as Sector 13; all vampires.

Mia doesn’t want to tell the detective everything that happened that night, because she doesn’t him to think she’s crazy, however, when she does, Cole realizes that she will be in danger if the vampires realize that she can control them with a hidden power that she never knew she possessed.

Power of the Moon was a powerful paranormal adventure. Mia’s struggle to trust was evident throughout the story, and it was a powerful struggle for that brick wall to be taken down literally brick by brick. Although Cole, has his own struggle to remain in control of being a vampire whenever he is around Mia. These two obstacles collide often, which leaves you in suspense for Mia and Cole to overcome and finally be together. Power of the Moon is action packed. The kind of action packed book that you can read in a day because you just can’t PUT IT DOWN. The evil vampires are after Mia. Mia learns that she has special powers, and, the power of the moon plays a more important roll than just an incredible title. Got your interest up? Good…read it. Power of the Moon is more for adults and not young adults.

Pleasing the Mob Review

Title: Pleasing the Mob

 Author: Essence Birdall

Publish Date: Published September 28th 2012

Synopsis:
Set in 1930, a young man finds himself in debt with the worst people in the city-the mob. When he is told that the mob head wishes to see him, both him and his girlfriend are terrified. Nonetheless, the meeting goes on, but will the two make it out alive? This is the debut short story of the young new author, Essence Birdsall. Her first novel is currently in the works. If you enjoyed this story, there are more coming soon.

This is a short story written by my cousin Essence Birdsall. She is a High school student with a love for writing, and has been currently working on her first novel for the past two years.

This is a short story about a young man who borrows money from the mob. He has been making his payments regularly. However, the mob King decides he wants more money.

I really enjoyed this story. Yes, I might be a little biased because Essence is my cousin, but I found that she really has a talent and I see a bright future for her.  For being a teenager, she captured the 1930 setting and atmosphere perfectly.

Perception Review

Title: Perception

Author: Lee Strauss

Publish Date: Published September 12th 2012 by ESB Publishing

Synopsis:
Seventeen year old Zoe Vanderveen is a GAP—a genetically altered person. She lives in the security of a walled city on prime water-front property along-side other equally beautiful people with extended life spans. Her brother Liam is missing. Noah Brody is a natural who lives on the outside. He leads protests against the GAPs and detests the widening chasm they’ve created between those who have and those who don’t. He doesn’t like girls like Zoe and he has good reason not to like her specifically. Zoe’s carefree life takes a traumatic turn. She’s in trouble and it turns out that Noah, the last guy on earth she should trust, is the only one who can help her. PERCEPTION is a ( SF/mystery/romance) Young Adult novel that takes place in the not-too-distant future in a world changed by climate extremes, natural disasters and impending wars, and where scientific breakthroughs cause class divisions—both financially and philosophically. It explores the clash between faith and science and how differences can separate us as enemies or ally us together. And in some cases, even in the midst of betrayal and personal crisis, there’s room to fall in love. This is the first book in a planned three book series.

Perception is a mixture of Sci-fi, Dystopia, Mystery, and Romance all wrapped up in an insanely incredible Story. These ingredients will feed your imagination and leave your mind fulfilled!

Zoe has the perfect life. She is rich, beautiful, gorgeous boyfriend: a GAP with no worries…. Until her brother, Liam, goes missing. Zoe is distraught over this, and upset with her parents and authorities for not being more concerned. She knows this is out of character for Liam, and decides to do some investigating herself. This investigation takes her to the Outside, where the Naturals live. She only has one clue to go on, however, she runs into Noah, the son of her parent’s housekeeper. He agrees to help her, with the aid of his connections. What they discover will flip Zoe’s life upside down, and put her in danger.

OMG! Yep, there it is….OMG….this was such an amazing story; I couldn’t put it down and read it in a day. I loved the sci-fi/dystopia/mystery blend of goodness in this story. Even though Zoe is a GAP, her bond with her brother and her drive to find the truth goes against all the norms that she was raised to believe in. Watching the romance start from the beginning between Zoe and Noah was such a rush, and I was rooting for them along the sidelines from the moment they first met. The plot was filled with unexpected turns that you will not see coming, and the clues will leave you wondering. It is full of interesting characters, and some you will quickly learn to despise.

I am excited to learn that this is the first book of three. When you find a story and characters that you love, you don’t ever want the story to end!! I’m excited to see where Zoe and Noah’s adventure leads to, and what the future holds for them. YOU HAVE TO READ THIS ONE!!!!

The Modified Review BLITZ!!

Title: The Modified
Author: C.A. Kunz
Publish Date: Published 2012 by C.A. Kunz LLC

Synopsis:
What would you sacrifice to save the one’s you love? To save the one who holds your heart? To save the world? Kenley Grayson is all too familiar with these questions. After Earth is thrust into its first intergalactic war with an unknown race called the Bringers, our military forces begin to suffer heavy losses. Desperate for a solution, the Allied Federation issues a worldwide draft for every able seventeen year old to enlist. As Kenley turns seventeen, she finds herself thrown into the very war that took her older brother’s life. This year’s draft is a little different than in the past though. A new program, known as the Magnus Project, has been introduced, and only the best and brightest qualify. Kenley is amongst a select few whom are chosen to join this elite group of soldiers, and as a part of this project, undergoes a modification procedure that leaves her and her peers endowed with powers beyond their wildest dreams. As Earth continues in its struggle against the Bringers, Kenley is transported to a high-tech training facility, the Magnus Academy, to prepare for the major battle that lies ahead. It’s here that she meets the California heartthrob, and son of a legendary war hero, Landon Shaw. As unexpected feelings toward Landon begin to develop, Kenley wonders if this is the right time or place for romance to bloom, especially when those feelings start to interfere with her training. With the weight of the world on her shoulders, Kenley is constantly reminded of how important she and the rest of the Magnus cadets are to the fate of humanity. She is one of the Modified, Earth’s last line of defense against utter destruction.
The Modified is pure genius in creativity and sci-fi phenomenon.

This story is full of adventure and creative Sci-Fi imagination. Not only is it sci-fi, but also Dystopian…two of my favorite genres. Just the modification process alone is pure adrenaline. How do authors come up with incredible storylines like this? I ask myself that daily.

Kenley doesn’t see her father very often because he is a scientist, never being able to discuss his work. When the draft comes around, Kenley never imagined she would be picked, along with her best friend. All the recruits are taken to a secret facility where the modification process takes place, and then they begin their training. They were sworn to secrecy, not even families knowing what is happening to them. The recruits are the last hope for Earth in the intergalactic war with the Bringers.

Ok, that is not much of a short synopsis but I truly do not want to give out ANY spoilers to this incredible story. It was such a fun and exciting read, I am still baffled by the uniqueness of it. There is a little romance, conflict between fellow recruits, and some comical moments where I found myself laughing out loud. All qualities of a good book in my opinion. Oh, and the most important part, the twists and turns and CLIFFHANGER at the end. Yeah, doesn’t that always get you? The cliffhangers? It definitely leaves you wanting more and having anxiety for the next release!!

My Over All Rating:

Here is a quote from the story!

“So beautiful,” I hear a male’s deep voice say behind me. I spin around and see it’s the guy from before. His face is perfection, right down to the chiseled jawline. A grin creeps across his lips as he sees me blush when our eyes meet.
“Yeah…Earth is, beautiful, isn’t it?” was all I could say.
“I guess Earth is too,” he says and grins wider, his dimples adding an extra touch. My blush deepens and I turn back around to face the window.

Thinking they could finally relax and work on the romance growing between them, they now meet a mysterious psychic vampire named Vincent who has his heart set on being with Faith. Soon bizarre killings of Zou Tai's werewolf pack begin, with rumors of an alchemist possessing the famed philosophers stone being the assailant; which, causes Faith to turn to Vincent for help in figuring out why the werewolves are being murdered. It isn't long before all those around them test Trent and Faith's love, along with their abilities, once again. It is all Trent can do to keep Faith safe by his side while both go up against a deadly alchemist, deceptive gods, and having to rescue the werewolf prince; yet, after a deal with the God of Werewolves will Trent be able to save himself too
If Faith thought her new life was going to relax for a while, she was completely mistaken. Werewolf descent takes Faith’s newfound witch abilities to a completely new level.

Faith’s relationship with Trent is challenged when the only Psychic Vampire, Vincent, shows up in their lives, drawn to Faith’s energy. He shows up constantly, putting Trent on edge.

Werewolves are being killed, and no one knows how or why.

Faith wants answers, and goes to someone completely unexpected for help.

Werewolf Descent is filled with unexpected twists and turns. Faith’s confidence shines, as she barrels right into conflict and fighting for what she believes is right. In addition, for a love triangle, if you can even call it that with three men involved, gets steamy with wonder if Faith has chosen correct with Trent. This story is full of excitement! New characters are introduced, which heightens the plot and the gods interfere. The ending will twist your heart with unexpected turmoil. Werewolf Descent definitely takes this series up a notch!
